God Loves Me…Just Because

It might sound simple, but God loves us just because he loves us. There’s nothing the Israelites did to earn his love (Deuteronomy  7:7-8), there’s nothing the disciples did to earn his love (John 15), and there’s nothing we do today to earn his love.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

What a powerful statement. We tend to focus on the second part – of how Jesus saved the world and gifted us with eternal life.  But the verse starts with how much God loves us, and how much he loved us long before we reciprocated that love.  Sending Jesus was out of his love for us.

That simply blows my mind.  Sometimes I just can’t get my head around that kind of love.

We need other people to love us back.  If and when they do, we build our relationship around that reciprocation.  But with God, he not only loved us first, he sacrificially acted before we even knew what was happening.

God loves us…just because his loves us.

Let that sink in.  Be amazed by God’s love.
