5 Ways You Can ‘Breathe’ This Christmas

Don’t just believe…breathe

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Even though Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, we sometimes forget to breathe. Mark Schultz penned it the best — “we’re running just to catch ourselves.” We may experience moments of rest, but at the end of the day, Christmas can end up becoming more stressful than helpful. As Christmas Day approaches, I want to share five ways we can all breathe.

5 Ways You Can Breathe During Christmas

As a Christian, I find myself reassuring our family that we make sure to “keep Christ in Christmas.” Yes, it’s a cliché, but it’s impossible to focus on more than one aspect of Christmas. We can enjoy several aspects of Christmas that are outside of Christ, but we can only actually focus on one. Hopefully, we choose to focus on the mission of Christmas (Click here to read about what I mean).

When we learn to focus on Christ, we’ll learn how to breathe. Christmas will move from chaos to mission; from overwhelming to a blessing.

Based on Advent, here are five ways we can practically breathe during the Christmas season:

How do you define ‘inclusivity’ and ‘exclusivity’?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In our multi-view society, everyone has an opinion. This could be a good thing or a bad thing.  I like it when people have the ability to voice their thoughts and understandings of the world. In fact, I give people the space to do so. The challenge arises, however, when one opinion dominates another. The two words that surface are ‘inclusivity’ and ‘exclusivity.’  For a moment, it seems these two terms are completely opposite of one another, but when they are placed in a particular situation, the outcome can be quite complicated.

Do You Celebrate Advent With Your Church Family?

eBook: The Journey of Advent (Readings for Non-Liturgical Services)

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Advent is one of the most important seasons of the Christian calendar. It saddens me that many non-liturgical churches dismiss Advent as ‘something they don’t do,’ because of its liturgical nature.  Even though I grew up in a non-liturgical church, we participated in Advent each year, and for the past five years, have had the privilege of leading our local church in doing the same. Does your church family celebrate advent?

When God Says, “Not right now…”

Reflecting on outcomes; not letting outcomes reflect us

Reading Time: 5 minutes

You’re passionate about a new opportunity. You’ve applied for a new role. You’ve been nominated for leadership. You know God is stirring up a passion for new ideas and strategic initiatives in your life, but for some reason the outcome doesn’t match the passion. The opportunity closes. The job is awarded to another person. Another candidate is chosen. What happens when God says, “Not right now…?”

How To Launch a Basic Live Stream

Our journey through live streaming our Sunday service.

Reading Time: 7 minutes

I have the pleasure of pastoring a small local church in Bay Roberts, NL (Bethel). Being in a rural setting, people in neighboring towns often have to travel to attend a service. In an effort to make sure traveling and transient people were included in our church family and community, we looked into live streaming our services. Technology is a wonderful thing, but it’s advancing faster than we can keep up with it. In order to stay current, we have to learn from one another and continuously improve along the way! Hopefully our journey through this process is helpful for all of us!
